I, Capt Dan and Elizabeth, head out to Adam’s Cut on a subscriber’s boat

Picture this: crystal-clear waters, warm sunshine, and the soothing sound of waves hitting the side of the boat. With our trusty subscriber providing the vessel for today’s adventure, we couldn’t wait to get out on the water and see what awaited us.

We end up finding a plethora of crabs instead of shrimp

As we reached Adam’s Cut, we were expecting to find an abundance of shrimp, but nature had a different plan for us. What we discovered instead was a veritable playground of crabs. It seemed like the universe was conspiring to give us a unique experience, and we were more than ready to embrace it.

Heiko (@SouthFloridaFishingChannel) and our Michigan friends, Thad and his son Shane, join us

To make this adventure even more exciting and memorable, we were joined by some familiar faces. Heiko from the South Florida Fishing Channel and our dear Michigan friends, Thad and Shane, decided to tag along for the ride. With their enthusiasm and expertise, we knew we were in for a treat.

We catch and cook Elizabeth’s favorite food – blue crabs

As the day progressed, we couldn’t resist the temptation to test our fishing skills and catch some delicious blue crabs. Elizabeth, being the seafood lover that she is, was particularly thrilled about this opportunity. Marking this as a highlight of the excursion, we embarked on a thrilling crab-catching spree.

Catching Tips:

  • Choose the right bait – chicken necks or fish heads work wonders!
  • Position your crab trap in a strategic location – shallow water near structure is ideal.
  • Give the crab a moment to latch onto the bait before pulling it out.

Cleaning Tips:

  1. Rinse the crabs thoroughly to remove any debris.
  2. Hold the crab firmly and flip it upside down.
  3. Remove the triangular flap on the underside of the crab using your thumb.
  4. Turn the crab back over, remove the top shell, and discard it.
  5. Clean out the gills and sediment from the center portion of the crab using a hose.
  6. Finally, rinse the crab one last time to ensure it’s perfectly clean.

Cooking Tips:

  • Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil.
  • Add your favorite seasonings and spices to the boiling water.
  • Carefully place the cleaned crabs into the pot.
  • Let them cook for about 20 minutes or until they turn a vibrant orange color.
  • Remove the crabs from the boiling water and let them cool for a few minutes.
  • Serve them up with some melted butter and enjoy the delectable flavors!
